Last Friday we visited John Muir Park, Observatory Hill, and the Wee White Kirk for a Howard and Betty Love Marquette County adventure. Betty, Blanche and Beulah, the Therapy Dogs who love Marquette County, lead the way to learning more about some of the wonderful places where student live. We learned about deciduous trees and coniferous trees.    Which ones have needles?  Which ones have their leaves fall off in autumn?   What tree is a trickster because it has needles and cones but loses the needles in fall? We also got to see a video that Mr. Sullivan found for us that showed students in Northern Wisconsin making pine marten houses. The history of Montello Lake and Montello City Park

On Thursday we are going to meet at the park in Montello to learn about migrating birds, but do you know the history of the city park and the history of Montello Lake? Here are some facts about Montello Lake and the park: When the first settlers moved here to build a village, there was NO Montello lake.  There was only the Montello River.  Jason Daniels, the first settler here, built a dam on that river in order to harness water power for a mill.  Look at your Howard and Betty books to see some photos of mills in Marquette County.  Look at pages 19, 20 and 30 in your Howard and Betty book...
