I work for the Department of Natural Resources in Madison and came across your website while looking for images of the Montello River to use in a small piece about the watershed we will be putting on a future DNR website. I saw an immature bald eagle eating on a dead deer carcass in a corn field yesterday on Cty Rd F. Didn’t have my camera along, darn.

I have also noticed increased eagle sightings between Briggsville and the Dells.

Not sure of the reasons, but am delighted of increased opportunities to view these majestic and beautiful birds!

I have a small patch of Mayapples and I have planted then near the wild ginger which also hides its red flower under the leaf. This time of year I walk through my gardens 3-4 times a day to see the wild geraniums starting to bloom; note the progress of the jack-in-the pulpits, and sigh as the blooms of the bloodroot are already past and the leaves have unfurled.

I am so glad I found Kathleen’s web site. I used to live in Marquette County many years ago and when I retire, plan to move back to the area. I just ordered the “Unearthed” book and look forward to receiving it so I can learn more about the history of my roots. Thank you for writing this book, Kathleen!
