Migration challenge learning experience was great fun

What did we learn at historic Montello City Park last week?   We learned about all the challenges that birds face when they migrate and we learned how we can help birds.

To learn about migration we divided up into "flocks."  What bird were you?

Once we were in our "flocks" we had to fly through the migration course.

Birds face all sorts of challenges.   Sometimes we got to fly right to our next stop, but sometimes we had to face difficult times.

This flock had to crawl low on the ground to avoid power lines.  Birds fly into power lines on their migrations and many are killed each year by this.

Sometimes scientists catch birds and put bands around their legs.  Then they release them and study them as they fly on their migration routes.

OUCH...we flew into a glass building.   You can prevent window strikes by birds by putting stickers or decals on your windows or hanging something in front of the window.

We learned about what birds eat and even saw a Blue Spotted Skink.
